Bandwagons and Cows

I don’t normally jump on bandwagons. However, with this one I felt it was beneficial. Beneficial to our body’s and our minds. Which collagen do you have?

If you take a collagen supplement why do you take it? I have had a lot of clients ask me about them and what I think, so I thought let’s research. You pop into the shop and want collagen supplements but which do you choose? There are literally hundreds!

Plant based- if you’re vegetarian or vegan these are your go to. This works with type II collagen in our bodies. Helping with cartilage and working with your body to support.

Marine collagen- this is a fish based collagen, taken from the scales or bones and works with type I collagen production. This focuses on the hair, skin and nails. Great for those that want an external focus.

Bovine collagen- this is as the name suggests from cows. The collagen is extracted from the hides and is primarily a bi product of the meat industry. It is hydrolysed so it is in smaller molecules and in powder or capsule form. Dealing with type I and III collagen production it is focusing on all of the external factors and then type III works internally. Your guts and joints also bone density.

Here at Dovecote Beauty I have decided to stock bovine collagen peptides. Simply based on my research, I have found bovine to cover more bases. I have chosen to retail KiKi Health which have been in the industry over 25 years. They have extensive knowledge in supplement use and have been incredibly helpful in providing the knowledge and training for the supplements I shall be stocking. Now as most of you know I love to support local but, here I was a little limited. So, Kiki Health is still a British brand based in Norfolk. I’ve been using the peptide powder myself and love it. So, I do hope you will too.

Beauty isn’t always about the products we apply to our skin, sometimes we need to work internally too. Busy lifestyles don’t always allow for this. As you know with your water intake… collagen production is something that depletes in our bodies after the age of 25. Usually by 1% a year, and as the famous supermarket says, every little helps. So topping this up isn’t a bad thing in my eyes.

I just want to simplify this process of what shall I use, and help you to make an informed decision based on knowledge. That’s what I’m here for. I can’t wait for this journey!
